Three Paths Into Medical Assisting at CCI

Three Ways Students Arrive at Medical Assisting

There is no single profile of a Medical Assistant student at California Career Institute. Some are entering healthcare for the first time. Some are leaving another industry entirely. Some already work in patient care and want to broaden what they can do. The program is built to accommodate all three.

A First Step Into Healthcare

Medical assisting is one of the most accessible entry points into the healthcare field. No previous healthcare experience is required, and no four-year degree is needed. CCI also offers Ability-to-Benefit admission, which means prospective students who have not finished high school or earned a GED may still be able to enroll.

For Career Changers

Students leaving retail, hospitality, or office work often need a path that does not require putting their income on hold. The hybrid format, which pairs online theory with on-campus skills labs, makes it possible to retrain in 40 weeks without putting the rest of life on pause.

For CNAs and Healthcare Support Staff

Students already working as a CNA or in patient care bring a foundation with them. The Medical Assistant program builds broader clinical and administrative skills on top of that experience, including front office, insurance, and billing workflow, and can open doors toward LVN or RN pathways.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Medical Assistant program, applicants must:

  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Complete a school interview
  • Provide valid identification and Social Security documentation
  • Pass the Wonderlic SLE-Q entrance assessment with a minimum qualifying score of 12

Enrollment and Financial Aid

CCI’s Medical Assistant program uses rolling enrollment, with new class start dates every month at the Anaheim and Hawthorne campuses. Federal, state, and private financial aid options are available to those who qualify, and CCI’s admissions and financial aid teams work with students individually to build a personalized plan. A net price calculator is also available on the CCI website.
