How to Obtain Your LVN License in California

When you enter a vocational school like CCI, you’ll work toward earning a diploma that puts you on a direct track to a restricted career such as nursing. To qualify for an LVN license in California and become a licensed professional, you must:

  • Meet the state’s Board of Vocational Nursing requirements.
  • Complete the necessary education and training at an approved licensed vocational nursing program.
  • Pass the National Council Licensure Exam for Licensed Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).

Registration and certification requirements for taking and passing these examinations are not controlled by CCI, but by outside agencies, and are subject to change by the agency without notice. Therefore, CCI cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take these exams, at all or at any specific time, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment.

At CCI, you’ll learn from our experienced nursing educators and gain clinical experience at one of the many healthcare organizations we partner with.

After successful completion of our part-time LVN program, you will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-PN and advance to the next step in your nursing career. Plus, our Career Services team offers career placement support for a seamless transition from program to practice.

As an LVN, Your Nursing Career Journey Is Just Beginning

Our licensed vocational nursing program can prepare you for much more than just the LVN role. It can help you get further along in your career journey and qualify for future nursing programs.

CCI’s LVN program offers a natural progression for students who strive to become RNs and later move on to more advanced roles. While everyone’s path will look different, here is just one possibility for achieving your career dreams:

  • CNA: Enter the field as a certified nursing assistant.
  • LVN: Complete an LVN program and become a licensed vocational nurse.
  • RN: Earn an associate degree to become a registered nurse.
  • RN-BSN: Continue on the nursing track and earn a bachelor of science in nursing.
  • NP or APRN: Complete a master’s degree in nursing and become a nurse practitioner or advanced practice registered nurse.
  • DNP: Advance to the highest level of clinical nursing practice and be involved in administering patient outcomes as a doctor of nursing practice.
  • Ph.D. in Nursing: Contribute to the highest level of academic research in the field with a doctor of philosophy in nursing.

You’ll have the entire workweek available for full-time employment. Many CCI students use this flexibility to keep gaining real-world experience as CNAs or in other healthcare jobs.

Given our small class sizes, you’ll get to know everyone and will have easy access to all the resources and hands-on support you need. Our administrators and instructors will work closely with you throughout the whole program

Affordable Program Cost and Financial Aid Options

CCI offers flexible payment options and affordable, all-inclusive tuition that covers courses, clinicals, books and more. Federal financial aid and grants are also available to those who qualify. Our Financial Aid Office will help you navigate your options and understand the cost of our vocational nursing program and complete a personalized tuition plan.

Just 18 Months of Training to Completion

*Program length may be subject to change dependent on transfer credits and course load. CCI does not guarantee admittance, graduation, subsequent employment or salary amount.

You don’t have to wait until the fall to begin your studies — regular start dates are available to new cohorts throughout the year. When you contact us, you’ll get in touch with an admissions representative who will work with you to find the start date that works best. Upon successful completion of our part-time LVN program, you’ll be ready to take the NCLEX-PN and receive your vocational nursing license.
